Statistics show that 99% of the world’s wealth is in the hands of 1% of today’s population. The disparity between the rich and poor are widening. The poor who struggle to make ends meet often skip the process of putting the next generation in school. Even small children are taught basic skills that enable the family to earn some money. As time goes by, the opportunity to be in school is lost and education as an enabler never happens. Some even get into uncalled for activities and end up on the wrong side of the law. This is more prevalent with orphaned children or with a single parent. It becomes even more difficult when the child is a first-generation school goer in the family. With technology advancements, things are changing, more parents and children want to be in school, but financials barriers still prevent quality education.

We at Thangam Foundation want to change this. Create the opportunity of education to deserving children in India and Africa.

“The Gift of Life” program is designed just for this.

A group of like minded people came together to accomplish this. Our idea is to identify children with potential, mentor them and put them in school so they come out empowered with education. This enables them to pursue higher education, develop a skill so they can support and lead a healthy life.

An auto driver’s child is pursuing higher education at IIT – Chennai
A security worker at a mill, his son has now completed his MBA and works for a software company
A girl child to a single parent is now a qualified nurse
Son of a daily labor to a single mother stood secured 100% marks in four major subjects to be admitted in a leading college.
One of our mentored students is pursuing his goal to be an IAS officer.

We work directly with students, families and schools to ensure donations are maximized. There is no cost to running the program as we are volunteers working together. We are a registered 501C charity and all donations are exempt from taxes.
